SEO A Blog

How to SEO a blog by understanding what the search engines are seeking. The search engines will rank your blog using several different factors (content, keywords, back-links and traffic.)

Just because you decided to tell the world about your product or service doesn’t mean anyone will arrive at your island. Do you feel (like I did) as though you’re lost at sea in the dark with no paddle, aimlessly floating, waiting for someone to stumble upon your blog.

How to SEO A Blog:

Before you register a fancy web address, you must first figure out what your prospects are searching for by doing some research (Googles keyword tool). In other words, if someone was to go searching for your product or service, what keywords would they enter into their web browsers in order to find you?

After you’ve completed your keyword research, use your specific keywords as content pages. Each page you create should be focused on a specific keyword you want to rank high for in the search engines.

Try and niche your keywords so that they’re very well defined. You don’t want a broad keyword. You want a keyword that people are searching for, but not so broad that you can’t compete. A broad keyword, for me, would be “Marketing.” It would be very difficult to SEO a blog or website for that broad of a keyword.

Your blog or website URL can be your name or what your site concept is about. I have two blogs. One is GlenAndrews1.com. The other is a specific niche called AndrewsSalonMarketing.com

My site GlenAndrews1.com is about making a blog, marketing a blog, and making money blogging (those are my keywords). I’ve also included personal development because I think it’s really important for entrepreneurs and small business owners to understand the mental side of producing consistent results in your life, and business.

AndrewsSalonMarketing.com is about helping salon owners market their business more effectively. My keywords are… salon marketing, marketing a salon, salon promotions, etc. It took me 4 months to get it on page one of Google.

Here’s how to seo your blog

First – make sure that the topic you wish to share with the world has a big enough demand so that you can make money.

After you have chosen several keywords that best describes your product or service, you need to write separate articles for each of these keywords. One of my blog seo keywords is “writing e-zines.” I would need to use that keyword in my headline, my first sentence of the first paragraph, and throughout the body copy. If your article is one thousand words, then your keyword should appear approximately seven to ten times throughout the article. Your keyword will appear less for shorter articles, and more for longer articles.

Pictures/Videos: Make sure when you ad pictures or video to your blog that you use your keyword as the description.

Search engine spiders will crawl your blog to determine how relevant your articles are to your specific keyword. That’s why you must seed your articles with specific keywords so you can rank high with the search engines. This is how to seo a blog using specific keywords.

After you have accomplished your articles, seeded with your keywords, you’ll need to get back-links to your blog. You can do this several ways. One is to submit articles with your blogs URL in the author’s resource box. Here are 2 of the top article submission sites: http://www.knol.gooles.com and ezinearticles.com

NOTE: Submit a few of your keyword articles to these article submission sites. However, don’t submit too many otherwise the search engines will look at your articles as duplicated content. This will have a negative effect on your blogs seo ranking.

Backlinks

You can get back-links from video sharing sites, article submission sites, commenting on other top blogs, (as long as they have “follow” turned on) link swapping with other top performing blogs in your area of expertise . The key is NOT how many back-links you have, but how many quality back-links you have. Your back-links should be from other blogs, websites or directories that rank high in the search engines, and if possible, relevant to your site concept. My keyword for this page is “seo a blog.” I’m only telling you this because I needed to get that search term (seo a blog) in one more time. ;)

You also need to submit your website to the search engines (Google, Yahoo, and Bing.) When I started my first website I was a complete dunce. I thought when my blog was complete the search engines would automatically index my blog, and WALLA – instant rankings. What a moron I was, huh? It’s okay, you don’t have to agree!
